Ice Pack and Heat Pack are both commonly used methods in home care, but they have different effects on the body. Everyone knows about ice pack and heat pack, but they don't know the differences between the two, nor how to use them correctly. In fact, ice pack and heat pack have different effects, methods, indications, and contraindications. After a person exhibits symptoms of illness, it is necessary to understand the condition before targeted treatment can be administered.
1. Different Effects:
Ice Pack: Limited to acute soft tissue injuries, usually applied locally within 24 hours, helps reduce swelling, stop bleeding, and relieve pain.
Heat Pack: For acute and chronic inflammatory pain, heat pack can directly stimulate vasodilation, which is more effective than ice pack, and has disinfecting and anti-inflammatory effects.
2. Different Methods:
Ice Pack Method: Apply ice gauze to the affected area. Typically, put edible ice cubes in a basin, add saline, then immerse sterile gauze in the basin, wring it out, and cover it on the affected area.
Heat Pack Method: There are two types, dry and wet. Dry heat pack can be done using a hot water bag for 20 minutes each time. Wet heat pack involves placing a towel in a hot water basin, soaking it for half an hour, covering it with a cotton pad, and replacing it every 5 minutes for a total of 20 minutes.
3. Different Indications:
Heat Pack: Promotes the resolution of inflammation, helps remove necrotic tissue, and aids in tissue repair. Wet heat pack can promote relaxation of muscles and ligament tissue.
Ice Pack: Ice pack can reduce congestion and bleeding. It can be used after tonsillectomy or for local injuries caused by nosebleeds. Cold compress can relieve toothache, reduce local blood flow, and prevent inflammation and abscess spread.
