"How Do I Choose Contact Lenses for Astigmatism?"
When patients with astigmatism wear contact lenses, they need to choose suitable lens types based on their own conditions and undergo relevant examinations before wearing them. Common lens types include rigid gas-permeable (RGP) lenses and soft corneal contact lenses.
Lens Types
Rigid Gas-Permeable (RGP) Lenses
RGP lenses are made of highly oxygen-permeable materials, characterized by good breathability and low pressure on the eyes, effectively correcting astigmatism. However, due to their stiffness, they may cause discomfort such as foreign body sensation and dryness during wear. It is recommended that first-time users undergo trial fitting and adjustment under the guidance of a doctor.
Soft Corneal Contact Lenses
Soft corneal contact lenses, primarily composed of hydrogel, offer excellent transparency and breathability, effectively correcting astigmatism. However, they may pose certain infection risks, thus requiring comprehensive eye examinations before wearing and strict adherence to doctor's instructions.
Wearing Method
Clean Hands
Before wearing contact lenses, wash hands thoroughly with soap and dry them to prevent bacteria from entering the eyes and causing infections.
Remove Lens
Gently press your finger on the eyeball, then use tweezers or a handle to remove the lens.
Soak in Disinfectant Solution
Soak the lens in chlorinated disinfectant solution for 5-10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with saline solution for use.
Wear the Lens
Place the lens under the lower eyelid, avoiding pressure on the eyeball. Hold the lower eyelid with your hand to ensure a tight fit between the lens and the eyeball.
In case of astigmatism, seek medical attention promptly. Maintain good lifestyle habits, avoiding prolonged exposure to electronic devices like phones and computers, to prevent exacerbation of the condition.
