"What Should I Do About Chronic Coughing Associated with Lymphoma?"
Treatment Options for Malignant Lymphoma, Also Known as Lymphoma, Including Long-Term Cough Management
Malignant lymphoma, clinically referred to as lymphoma, can manifest as long-term coughing. Its treatment encompasses dietary adjustments, medication, surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. This malignancy arises in the lymph nodes and lymphatic tissues, potentially causing symptoms such as swollen lymph nodes, localized masses, fever, and night sweats. Here are the key treatment approaches:
1. Dietary Adjustments
Persistent coughing in lymphoma patients may stem from lymphoma invasion of the throat mucosa. It is advised to increase water intake, maintain a balanced diet, and opt for bland foods, avoiding spicy or irritating items like chili peppers and spicy hotpot, which can irritate respiratory mucosa and exacerbate symptoms.
2. Medication
Long-term coughing in lymphoma patients could be bacterial-induced. Antibiotics prescribed by a doctor, such as Amoxicillin Capsules or Cefixime Capsules, may be administered. For tuberculosis infections, Isoniazid Tablets and Rifampicin Capsules are recommended. Fungal infections, on the other hand, are treated with antifungal medications like Itraconazole Capsules.
3. Surgery
In severe cases with symptoms like dysphagia, nasal congestion, or dyspnea, surgical resection of the affected area is necessary.
4. Radiotherapy
Post-surgery, if metastasis or spread is detected, radiotherapy is employed to curb cancer cell proliferation and migration.
5. Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy involves using chemical agents to eradicate or inhibit cancer cell growth, thereby prolonging survival for lymphoma patients.
Additionally, patients should avoid allergens like pollen and dust mites, maintain proper warmth, and seek immediate medical attention for unexplained persistent coughing, undergoing blood tests and CT scans for accurate diagnosis.
