What Does an Ovarian Cystic Echo Mean? Is It Serious?
Ovarian Cystic Echo
Ovarian cystic echo refers to the presence of a cystic mass in the ovary. This mass may be caused by physiological reasons or pathological reasons. If the ovarian cystic echo is caused by physiological factors, it usually appears in the second half of the menstrual cycle, mainly due to the formation of corpus luteum after ovulation, resulting in cystic echo. Most of these cystic echoes have a diameter of less than five centimeters and are asymptomatic, without lower abdominal pain or menstrual disorders.
What does ovarian cystic echo mean? Is it serious? Let's take a look. Firstly, ovarian cystic echo usually indicates the presence of physiological or pathological cysts on the ovary, as suggested by ultrasound examination of the uterine appendages. These cysts are usually filled with pure fluid and are considered benign with a high probability.
If this condition occurs, it is recommended to perform tests for ovarian tumor markers, such as CA125 and CA199. If the results are normal, observation for 2-3 months can be considered. If the cyst disappears during the follow-up ultrasound examination after 2-3 months, it may be considered as a physiological cyst of the ovary. If the cyst persists, it may be a pathological cyst.
Secondly, ovarian cystic echo mainly refers to the presence of cystic masses in the ovary, which may be caused by physiological or pathological factors. If the ovarian cystic echo is caused by physiological reasons, it usually occurs in the second half of the menstrual cycle, due to the formation of corpus luteum after ovulation, resulting in cystic echo. Most of these cystic echoes have a diameter of less than five centimeters and are asymptomatic.
Lastly, it should be noted that for ovarian cystic echo, if the cyst is larger than five centimeters, accompanied by lower abdominal pain, menstrual disorders, or a thick cyst wall as indicated by ultrasonography, further analysis should be conducted based on clinical history. If it is determined to be a pathological cyst, surgical treatment is recommended.
