What Are the Mucosal Protectants Available?

Update Date: Source: Network

Due to work and personal reasons, many people are unable to eat on time, leading to irregular eating habits. Long-term irregular eating can result in stomach problems. When dealing with stomach issues, some people may use gastric mucosal protective agents, which typically include colloidal bismuth subcitrate, sucralfate, gastric mucin, and thymic protein oral solution.

1. Colloidal Bismuth Subcitrate

Medications such as Del and Lizhu Del Granules contain colloidal bismuth subcitrate. Under the conditions of gastric fluid pH, it forms a solid vanadium oxide colloid precipitate on the surface of ulcers or in the granulation tissue at the ulcer base, creating a protective film that isolates the ulcer mucosa from the erosive effects of gastric acid, enzymes, and food. This promotes the repair and healing of ulcer tissue. Additionally, it can deactivate pepsin through integration, and bismuth ions can stimulate mucus secretion, both of which contribute to ulcer healing. It is used in the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers.

2. Sucralfate

Sucralfate is a sucrose sulfate alkali or aluminum salt that can complex with pepsin, inhibiting its decomposition activity. It also complexes with gastric mucosal proteins to form a protective film and has acid-suppressing effects. It can promote mucosal regeneration and enhance its resistance. It is used in the treatment of ulcers, but the therapeutic effect is slow, and symptoms may improve after about 2 weeks of administration. The ulcer area may shrink or heal within 3 to 6 months.

3. Gastric Mucin

Gastric mucin is extracted from the glycoprotein of the inner wall of a pig's stomach. When encountered with acid, it forms a highly viscous gelatinous substance that attaches to the gastric mucosa, protecting ulcerated areas and promoting their healing. The recommended dosage is 50 grams four times daily.

4. Thymic Protein Oral Solution

Thymic protein oral solution is a gastric mucosal protective factor enhancer that can enhance the vitality of gastric mucosal cells, nourish locally damaged mucosa, and promote the repair of epidermal cells and fibroblasts. It is primarily used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers.
