How Do I Handle Loud Breathing While Sleeping?
Loud breathing during sleep requires confirmation of whether one has obstructive sleep apnea syndrome or nasal obstruction caused by a tumor. If so, surgical treatment is necessary. If the loud breathing is due to nasal fat accumulation, it is recommended to consume more fresh vegetables and fruits daily, avoid excessive obesity, and reduce fatty foods. Here are some tips on how to deal with loud breathing during sleep:
1. Avoid smoking and drinking, which can cause muscle relaxation and block the respiratory tract. Avoid taking sleeping medication before bed to prevent further inhibition of the respiratory central nervous system.
2. Patients with loud breathing during sleep often have excessive internal heat and dampness. Therefore, avoid spicy and hot foods such as chili peppers, shepherd's purse, Chinese chives, dog meat, mutton, longan fruit, jujubes, lychees, walnuts, as well as stimulating spices like star anise, fennel, cloves, pepper, ginger, garlic, etc., to prevent the exacerbation of heat and dampness.
3. It is best to engage in gentle and calming activities before bedtime, avoiding overstimulation of emotions, as it can prevent the nervous system from relaxing immediately, resulting in poor sleep quality and loud breathing during sleep.
4. Change your sleeping position. When sleeping with loud breathing, it is recommended to sleep on your side, which can effectively prevent the tongue and soft palate from blocking the airway during deep sleep, thereby reducing loud breathing.
