What Diseases Can Be Detected by MRI?
Generally speaking, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) can be used to detect cardiovascular diseases such as heart disease, pericardial tumors, and pericardial effusion. It can also accurately detect neurological disorders such as fetal congenital malformations and cerebral infarction. NMR is also effective in diagnosing abdominal diseases such as liver cancer and liver cysts. Additionally, NMR can detect problems with bones and joints, including bone infections, tumors, trauma diagnosis, and subtle bone bruises, with high diagnostic value.
1. NMR machines emit strong magnetic fields even when not in use. For patients undergoing the examination, this can result in significant magnetic field exposure.
2. During NMR scanning, patients are placed in a relatively confined space. Those with claustrophobia are advised not to undergo NMR.
3. Pregnant women should minimize the frequency of NMR scans due to uncertainty regarding the potential effects of magnetic fields on the fetus.
4. Metal objects are strictly prohibited in NMR examination rooms. Patients with metal implants such as steel pins, plates, pacemakers, or prosthetics are not suitable for NMR scans as these metals can interact with the magnetic field, potentially interfering with the normal operation of the scanning equipment.
