Whats Going on with Prominent Shoulder Blades?
Prominent scapula may be related to poor posture, trauma, and suprascapular nerve entrapment syndrome.
1. Poor Posture: Since the muscles around the scapula are relatively weak, prolonged periods of poor posture such as bending and hunching may cause the scapula to appear prominent.
2. Trauma: If the scapula is subjected to external force collisions, it may result in fractures. This will affect the integrity of the scapula and may lead to scapular prominence, usually accompanied by local pain, swelling, and other abnormal symptoms.
3. Suprascapular Nerve Entrapment Syndrome: Patients with suprascapular nerve entrapment syndrome may experience affected normal activity of their scapular muscles. Prolonged inactivity of the scapular muscles can lead to muscle atrophy and make the scapula more prominent, often accompanied by limited movement, pain, and other discomfort.
Prominent scapula may also be associated with scapular tumors. It is recommended to visit a specialized hospital as soon as possible for corresponding treatment and management. Avoid vigorous activities of the scapula to prevent secondary injuries.
