Why Have I Been Experiencing Excessive Vaginal Discharge Every Day Recently?
Excessive vaginal discharge may be due to physiological reasons such as periodic changes in vaginal discharge, and its relationship with menstrual cycles and ovulation periods. It may also be indicative of gynecological diseases.
1. Periodic Changes in Vaginal Discharge
Physiological vaginal discharge is a secretion formed by the female reproductive organs under the influence of estrogen. Careful observation will reveal that vaginal discharge also exhibits periodic changes. It may vary in quantity and consistency, undergoing real-time changes according to the menstrual cycle. Generally speaking, vaginal discharge is heaviest during ovulation, and relatively less at other times. Before and after ovulation, the estrogen content in the ovaries gradually increases, stimulating the cervical mucus to become thinner and more transparent, and vaginal discharge also gradually increases.
2. Relationship between Vaginal Discharge, Menstrual Cycle, and Ovulation Period
Typically, the day when the vaginal discharge is most viscous and elastic, resembling a string-like consistency, is the ovulation day, and the fertility rate is highest on this day for sexual intercourse (more accurate results can be obtained with ovulation test strips). During menstruation, there is no vaginal discharge. After ovulation, vaginal discharge gradually decreases due to the secretion of progesterone, and menstruation usually occurs approximately 10 days later.
Normal vaginal discharge is white, viscous, and odorless. Although temporary abnormalities in vaginal discharge, such as changes in quantity and color, may occur due to menstrual cycles and other factors, persistent abnormal symptoms may indicate gynecological diseases such as uterine fibroids, cervicitis, and vaginitis. Some examples of abnormal symptoms include:
1. Excessive vaginal discharge, white or pale yellow, viscous, and odorless.
2. Thin and abundant vaginal discharge, accompanied by soreness in the waist and coldness in the limbs.
3. Abundant yellow, sticky, and malodorous vaginal discharge, or vaginal discharge resembling bean curd residue with a foul odor, vaginal itching, frequent urination, and painful urination.
