Is a Curved Penis in Men a Medical Condition?
The curvature of a man's penis may be a disease or a normal phenomenon. Under normal conditions, it may slightly bend downward during erection, which is considered normal. There is no need for excessive concern as such a condition will not affect normal sexual activity and does not require special treatment. Medically, the curvature of the penis is referred to as "abnormal tunica albuginea of the corpus cavernosum," which means that there is more tunica albuginea on one side, pulling the penis to the other side. For example, if there is more tunica albuginea on the right side, the penis will bend to the left.
1. Congenital hypospadias with downward curvature of the penis.
2. Short frenulum of the prepuce, pulling the glans penis and causing downward curvature of the penis.
3. Peyronie's disease, which not only causes dorsal or lateral curvature of the penis but also causes erectile pain and sexual dysfunction.
4. Abnormal development or lack of urethral corpus spongiosum on the ventral side of the penis.
5. Abnormal development of the tunica albuginea of the penis due to uneven development, with one side being too tight and the other too loose, resulting in ventral, dorsal, or lateral curvature of the penis.
6. Penile trauma, such as excessive force during sexual activity, incorrect sexual positions, causing penile injury and rupture of the tunica albuginea. Scars may form later, leading to poor penile curvature.
Poor lifestyle habits, such as uneven force during masturbation and wearing tight underwear that causes the penis to lean to one side for a long time, can also contribute to penile curvature.
