Why Do Teenagers Tend to Have Excessive Dandruff?
Excessive dandruff in adolescents may be due to seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp. Normally, the human scalp secretes a certain amount of oil to moisturize the hair and prevent it from becoming too dry. If the scalp secretes too much oil, causing the hair to become excessively greasy, it can easily lead to Malassezia infection, resulting in excessive dandruff. At this point, it is possible to have seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp.
Seborrheic dermatitis, also known as seborrheic eczema, is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease that occurs most frequently on areas with abundant oil secretion, such as the head, face, chest, back, and groin. The main manifestations are scaly and greasy erythematous patches, often accompanied by obvious itching. The cause of this disease is not yet clear, and it can recur.
Seborrheic dermatitis is associated with various factors such as genetics, environment, dietary habits, emotional stress, and underlying diseases. While the constitution inherited from birth cannot be prevented, improving lifestyle habits, regulating emotional stress, and actively treating underlying diseases can reduce the risk of developing the disease. Here are some tips:
1. Maintain a regular lifestyle, with sufficient sleep and scientific work-rest schedule.
2. Improve dietary habits, eat more fruits and vegetables, avoid sugary and fatty foods, and refrain from alcohol and spicy stimulating foods.
3. In cold and dry climates, use moisturizing cream to protect the skin.
4. Pay attention to personal hygiene, wash hair and bathe regularly, and avoid using stimulating bath products.
5. Balance work and rest, and maintain a pleasant mood.
6. Actively treat skin diseases such as acne, psoriasis, and rosacea.
