Is 38 Degrees Considered a Fever?
When measuring our body temperature, is 38 degrees considered a fever, especially in an office environment where air conditioning may make us feel less warm? So, after work, when we measure our temperature at home and find it to be 38 degrees, is this considered a fever? Generally speaking, a temperature of 38 degrees is considered a fever. In hospitals, when measuring a patient's body temperature, normal range is typically from 37 to 38 degrees. Sustaining this temperature for a period is considered mild fever. When the body temperature exceeds 38 degrees, it is considered high fever.
However, for individuals with significant changes in body temperature rhythms during sleep cycles, a temperature of 38 degrees may also occur. If the temperature remains above 37.2 degrees, it is recommended to take appropriate cooling measures or seek professional medical advice. For fevers exceeding 38 degrees, physical cooling methods can be applied (ice pillow, cooling patches, warm water wiping, etc.). For high fevers, low-side-effect fever reducers such as Chaihu injection and a small amount of dexamethasone can be used. For oral fever reducers, acetaminophen (paracetamol) can be taken. Compound paracetamol tablets should be avoided due to potential side effects. It is crucial to understand that a normal body temperature ranges from 36 to 37 degrees. Exceeding 38 degrees indicates a fever. However, one should not jump to conclusions and should consult a doctor promptly upon detecting a temperature of 38 degrees to avoid potential complications.
