Effects and Uses of Lindera glauca
Lindera glauca primarily possesses the effects of dispelling wind and activating the meridians, detoxifying and reducing swelling, and can also be used to treat wind-heat colds and rheumatic paralysis.
1. Dispelling Wind and Activating the Meridians
Lindera glauca has a warm nature and can dispel wind-dampness and activate the meridians. It can be used to treat rheumatic paralysis or stroke patients who are unable to speak. The dried fruits of Lindera glauca can be roasted together with Huangjingzi, ground into powder, and then soaked in boiling water for consumption twice a day. Typically, visible results can be observed after continuous consumption for three to five days.
2. Detoxifying and Reducing Swelling
Lindera glauca can clear heat and detoxify, as well as eliminate swellings. For patients with swellings caused by abscess toxin, in the early stage of abscess, fresh leaves of Lindera glauca and tender leaves of maple tree can be washed together, pounded with a tool, and applied to the affected area to detoxify and reduce swelling. However, for longer-term or more severe abscesses, it is recommended to consult a doctor first.
3. Treating Wind-Heat Colds
Lindera glauca, with its warm nature, can be used to treat wind-heat colds. Wind-heat is generally caused by the invasion of wind-heat pathogens, and patients usually present with symptoms such as fever, headache, and sore throat. Patients can boil Lindera glauca's tender leaves with Daqingye and Liuyuexue in water, and consume the decoction in two divided doses to dispel wind-heat and cure the cold.
4. Treating Rheumatic Paralysis
People with rheumatic conditions often experience worsening symptoms during rainy or cloudy weather. Some patients may also experience stiffness and numbness in their movements. The roots of Lindera glauca can be used to stew pig's feet, with the addition of an appropriate amount of yellow wine. Slowly stewing with water enhances the medicinal effects. Consuming this dish before meals can effectively alleviate the symptoms of rheumatic paralysis.
