Why Do Some Women Have Excessive Body Hair?
The excessive body hair in women may be related to genetic factors, polycystic ovary syndrome, adrenal diseases, pituitary function impairment, drug influence, etc.
One of the most important reasons for excessive body hair in women is genetics. If there are many people in the family with dense body hair, the child's body hair is generally denser as well. This genetic factor leads to excessive body hair, which appears from a very young age in women. Only people with simple excessive body hair generally have no abnormalities in other organs of the body. They just have more hair than normal people, and there are no major abnormalities in other aspects.
Androgens in women mainly come from two sources: the kidneys and the ovaries. Most androgens are released in the kidneys. However, if women develop polycystic ovary syndrome, it can also lead to excessive androgen secretion in women, and other functions of the ovaries may also be damaged. Therefore, women generally experience amenorrhea and obesity at the same time. These women not only have more body hair than normal, but may also show masculinization, such as the appearance of an Adam's apple.
The adrenal glands are the main source of androgens in women. Therefore, when adrenal cell tissue proliferates or adrenal tumors occur, the normal function of the adrenal glands will be damaged, and the androgen level in the body will increase. At this time, women may develop body hair in areas where it should not normally appear, such as the upper lip, limbs, and navel.
The secretion of androgens in the human body is regulated by the brain. When there is excessive hormone secretion in the body, the brain will negatively regulate hormone secretion. When there is insufficient hormone secretion in the body, the brain will positively regulate hormone secretion to ensure that the hormone level in the blood remains stable. However, when tumors appear on the pituitary gland, the pituitary function will be damaged, leading to excessive androgen secretion and resulting in excessive body hair in women.
Due to some physical discomfort, women may need to take some exogenous hormones, such as exogenous androgens or glucocorticoids. Long-term and large doses of these hormones may affect the normal secretion level of hormones in the body, often leading to abnormal increases in body hair secretion in women, which may also affect their normal menstrual levels.
