How to Reduce a Complete Dislocation of the Shoulder Joint?
A complete dislocation of the shoulder joint can be reduced manually, or through methods such as the hand-hold-and-foot-pedal technique and prone position reduction.
1. Manual Reduction: If the shoulder joint is completely dislocated due to trauma or violence, it can be reduced by lifting and rotating it under the operation of a professional doctor.
2. Hand-hold-and-foot-pedal Technique: This technique involves the doctor using both hands to grasp the dislocated shoulder, then using a foot to brace against the injured side's armpit. Finally, the doctor pulls the dislocated shoulder evenly and continuously, which can relax the upper arm muscles and allow the humerus to come out of the damaged joint capsule and return to the normal joint cavity.
3. Prone Position Reduction: The patient needs to lie prone on the bed with the affected arm hanging vertically. The arm is then gently pulled downwards. At this point, the doctor will use a thumb to brace against the lower edge of the scapula and reduce the shoulder joint through internal rotation force.
Reduction can also be achieved through methods such as traction and massage, or chair back reduction. After reduction, it is important to rest, avoid early activity, and prevent habitual dislocations.
