What Type of Pillow Is Best for a 2-Year-Old Child?
A 2-year-old child should use a pillow specifically designed for young children, which should be of suitable hardness and ideally beneficial to the child's growth. It is advisable to choose a pillow that can be used separately in winter and summer, with strong breathability during summer use, which will have certain benefits for the child. When selecting a pillow, it is also important to avoid choosing one that is too high, as this may cause the child's spine to curve, affecting their normal development.
1. Appropriate Height: The pillow used for a child should not be too high or too low. The most important thing is to ensure that it fits the curvature of the child's neck. How can we judge the standard of this height? When the child is lying on their back, if their head lies on the pillow and can maintain a horizontal line with the torso; and when the child is lying on their side, the line connecting both eyes should be perpendicular to the bed surface. As long as these two points can be achieved, it indicates that the pillow height is suitable for the child. Pillows that are too high or too low can make the child feel tired and may even harm their health. Generally, the height of a child's pillow should be between 3 and 10 centimeters.
2. Ensuring Adequate Support: The pillow for a child should not be too soft. Firstly, a too-soft pillow lacks support, as the child's head will sink into it, making it easy for their nose and mouth to be blocked during head turns, posing a risk of suffocation. On the other hand, a pillow that is too hard and lacks elasticity can make the child's head feel uncomfortable. Therefore, when selecting a pillow, parents should press it with their hands to feel its support effect. If the pillow has good rebound properties, it indicates that it is suitable for the child.
