What Causes Blood on the Toilet Paper After Defecation?
Blood on the toilet paper after defecation may be caused by upper gastrointestinal bleeding, intestinal diseases, anal diseases, or anal canal lacerations. Diseases such as gastric ulcers can lead to bloody stool, which is generally black. Intestinal diseases like colitis and proctitis can also easily cause bloody stool. Diseases of the anus such as hemorrhoids and anal fissures are also common causes of bloody stool. In addition, long-term constipation leading to anal canal lacerations can also cause bloody stool.
What Causes Blood on the Toilet Paper After Defecation?
1. Upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Diseases like gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers usually result in bloody stool, which is black or tarry.
2. Intestinal diseases. Diseases such as colorectal tumors, ulcerative colitis, radiation proctitis, Crohn's disease, etc. often result in bloody stool that is generally dark red and often accompanied by mucus and pus.
3. Anal diseases. Diseases such as hemorrhoids, anal fissures, anal fistulas, rectal prolapse, etc. usually result in bloody stool that is bright red.
When patients experience bloody stool, it is recommended that they seek medical attention promptly to avoid anemia caused by excessive blood loss, which can even lead to hemorrhagic shock and endanger life.
4. Anal canal laceration: If a patient has had long-term constipation, dry stool can sometimes cause anal canal laceration, leading to blood on the surface of the stool when wiping. The bloody stool is generally bright red and does not mix with the stool, sometimes appearing as spotty or dripping blood.
