Can sexual intercourse occur during menstruation?
It is best to avoid sexual intercourse during menstruation. Women's bodies are weaker during menstruation, and if sexual intercourse occurs, bacteria or viruses can easily invade the female uterine cavity, leading to various gynecological diseases, such as endometritis, cervicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, etc. In severe cases, it may even lead to female infertility. Therefore, it is best to avoid sexual intercourse during menstruation.
During menstruation, the endometrium sheds to form a wound, and the cervical os is also slightly open. In addition, due to the discharge of menstrual blood, the acidic environment in the vagina is diluted, and the vagina's self-cleaning ability is weakened. During sexual intercourse at this time, male genitalia can bring bacteria into the vagina, infecting the endometrium and causing pelvic inflammatory disease, causing pain for the female. Moreover, even if a condom is used, sexual intercourse is still not recommended, because condoms can only prevent sperm from entering the vagina but cannot prevent bacteria from entering the vagina. Therefore, doing so is also harmful.
It is better to have sexual intercourse three days after menstruation. By this time, the wound caused by the shedding of the endometrium has healed, and the vaginal pH environment has also been adjusted. Having sexual intercourse at this time will reduce the incidence of inflammation. If sexual intercourse occurs immediately after menstruation, the wound of the endometrium may not have fully healed, and the vagina is still in a weakly alkaline environment with poor resistance, making it easy for pathogens to enter the vagina, carry them into the uterine cavity, and even enter the fallopian tubes, leading to infertility. Therefore, it is best to wait for three days after menstruation ends before having sexual intercourse.
