"How to Prevent Transmission After High-Risk Behavior?"

Update Date: Source: Network

After engaging in high-risk behaviors, it is crucial to cleanse and disinfect the genital area promptly. In the case of HIV, it is advised to take PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) medications within 2 hours, with a maximum limit of 72 hours. For syphilis, penicillin should be administered within 72 hours. Regarding hepatitis B, suitable intervention methods should be chosen based on individual conditions. The detailed steps are as follows:

Immediately after engaging in high-risk behaviors, rinse the genital area with running water and disinfect the local area with iodophor or alcohol to eliminate potential pathogens and reduce the risk of infection.

1. HIV PEP

PEP medications should be taken within 2 hours and continued for 28 days. If timely administration is not possible due to medication availability, taking PEP within 72 hours is still effective.

2. Syphilis Prophylaxis

Intramuscular injection of penicillin should be administered within 72 hours, followed by a second injection a week later, continuing with penicillin injections to complete the prophylaxis.

3. Hepatitis B Prophylaxis

If hepatitis B surface antibodies are present, no prophylaxis is necessary. However, if they are absent, hepatitis B vaccine and hepatitis B immunoglobulin should be administered within 12 hours.
