Add 20ml of 0.5mol/L ethanol-potassium hydroxide solution, heat and reflux for 2 hours in a water bath, and then cool. Take an appropriate amount of the solution, evaporate the ethanol, add 10ml of water, neutralize with dilute hydrochloric acid, and then add several drops of ferric chloride test solution. A brownish precipitate should form.
