How to Address Throat Discomfort?
Throat discomfort may indicate the presence of certain diseases, such as pharyngitis, which requires timely medication and good dietary habits. If the condition persists, medical attention is necessary. Exposure to irritating odors or consumption of spicy foods can also lead to throat discomfort symptoms such as cough and a burning sensation. In such cases, drinking plenty of water can provide relief.
(1) Acute pharyngitis patients may experience symptoms such as fever, general discomfort, hoarseness, and other throat-related issues. It is recommended to take antibiotics such as cephalosporins, azithromycin, or quinolones. If hoarseness is severe, corticosteroids can be prescribed, and inhaled corticosteroid therapy or the use of lozenges and mouthwashes may also be considered.
(2) Chronic pharyngitis patients may experience a sensation of a foreign body in the throat, especially when swallowing saliva. This sensation may be exacerbated when eating or drinking, accompanied by symptoms such as irritating cough, dry throat, and a burning sensation. Clinically, lozenges and mouthwashes are commonly used to treat pharyngitis. If symptoms persist, timely examination with a laryngeal mirror or electronic laryngeal mirror is recommended to rule out throat cancer.
For individuals who frequently come into contact with dust, chemical gases, or other pollutants, it is essential to take protective measures such as wearing masks and respirators. If the air contains excessive dust, spraying water can help remove it. In daily life, it is advisable to consume foods that clear heat and lubricate the lungs, such as star fruit, lemon, honey water, tomatoes, radishes, pears, and sugarcane.
