Why Does My Five-Year-Old Constantly Say Their Stomach Hurts?

Update Date: Source: Network

Baby stomach pain is a common symptom, and there are many possible causes, such as intestinal spasms, acute pancreatitis, enteritis, etc. Why does the baby always say his stomach hurts? Here are some possible reasons:

1. Intestinal Spasms

This is the most likely cause of stomach pain in children. In the pediatric surgery outpatient department of children's hospitals, the majority of children's stomach pain is caused by intestinal spasms (intestinal cramps), affecting children from 1 or 2 years old to 11 or 12 years old. The most common age group is between 4 or 5 years old and 5 or 6 years old. The main cause of intestinal spasms is inappropriate eating habits (such as eating too much or eating a large amount of cold food). In this case, the child does not have a fixed tender point (the stomach feels soft), can eat and drink normally, and has a good mental state. The treatment is usually to take anticholinergics such as belladonna alkaloids along with other medications.

2. Acute Pancreatitis

Acute pancreatitis is less common in children aged 2 or 3 years old, but the incidence is relatively higher in children aged 4 or 5 years and older. The main causes are overeating, especially greasy and indigestible food; pancreatitis caused by biliary ascariasis blocking the bile duct (this situation is rare); and the use of L-asparaginase by leukemia patients. The symptoms include pain in the upper left side of the abdomen near the navel. Parents may notice that the child has eaten a lot of food, complains of stomach pain (with legs curled up), and does not allow touching the upper left side of the abdomen near the navel. Acute pancreatitis can generally be cured, but acute hemorrhagic necrotic pancreatitis can quickly lead to shock. The symptoms include severe abdominal pain (the child does not allow parents to touch the abdomen), vomiting, poor mental state, and gray complexion. If prompt treatment is not given, it can lead to death.

3. Enteritis

Enteritis is mainly characterized by pain in the entire lower abdomen centered around the umbilicus, accompanied by vomiting and diarrhea. The abdomen feels soft and there is no fixed tender point. Enteritis is generally caused by eating contaminated food. It is important to maintain good hygiene habits in daily life to prevent enteritis.
