A cold generally refers to an upper respiratory infection. During an upper respiratory infection, moxibustion is commonly applied to acupuncture points such as Fengchi, Yingxiang, Fengmen, and Taiyuan to alleviate symptoms.
1. Fengchi point is usually located in the depression between the first and second cervical vertebrae. Moxibustion at this point can promote blood circulation in the head and face, improving symptoms such as nasal congestion and headache.
2. Yingxiang point is typically found next to the midpoint of the outer edge of the nasal alae, in the middle of the nasolabial fold. Moxibustion at this point can clear nasal passages, dispel wind, and clear heat, thus relieving runny nose caused by upper respiratory infections.
3. Fengmen point is located in the depression between the third and fourth thoracic vertebrae on the midline of the back. Moxibustion at this point can promote the circulation of qi and blood, improving cough symptoms caused by upper respiratory infections.
4. Taiyuan point is usually found in the central part of the foot. Moxibustion at this point can regulate the respiratory system, improving asthma symptoms caused by upper respiratory infections.
Additionally, moxibustion can be applied to Dazhui point to enhance the body's immunity, which is beneficial for recovery. If the condition is severe, it is recommended that patients seek medical attention at a formal hospital to avoid further complication.
