What causes pain when touching the inside of the ear?
When the inner wall of the ear is touched, it hurts. Firstly, it can be attributed to normal physiological reasons. If the ear scoop touches the inner wall of the ear, it can cause pain because this part is rich in nerves, so even slight contact can cause discomfort. Of course, it may also be related to ear diseases, such as external otitis and otitis media, which can easily cause pain.
Feeling pain when touching the inner wall of the ear is a normal physiological phenomenon. The external auditory canal is usually slightly S-shaped and not absolutely straight. There is a lack of loose soft tissue between the subcutaneous tissue and the bone wall of the external auditory canal, and it is rich in sensory nerve endings, such as branches of the great auricular nerve, lesser occipital nerve, and vagus nerve. There are also branches of the glossopharyngeal nerve on the surface of the tympanic membrane.
The ear can be affected by many diseases, and touching the ear wall while rubbing the ear can cause pain. If the skin of the external auditory canal is damaged, or if the ear is exposed to water after swimming or bathing, the softened epidermis with accumulated water can lead to ear infections, such as external otitis or otitis media. When bumping into the ear wall, it can cause ear pain. It should be noted that if there are diseases such as tumors in the ear, it may also cause ear pain when the ear bumps into the ear wall.
