What is Liver CA?
Liver cancer, also known as hepatic carcinoma (abbreviated as ca in medical contexts), refers to malignancies originating in the liver. The liver is a crucial organ in the human body. If it encounters problems such as viral infections that are not promptly treated, it may lead to the development of tumors and even liver cancer. Therefore, it is essential to undergo regular medical check-ups to detect any illnesses at an early stage and initiate treatment promptly.
1. Viral Hepatitis: Among the known hepatitis viruses, all except hepatitis A virus can be considered factors in the formation of liver cancer. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) have a close relationship with liver cancer. Persistent infections with HBV and HCV can lead to chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and in some cases, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). HBV is the primary causative factor in developing countries, while HCV is the primary pathogenic agent in developed countries. The risk of developing liver cancer due to HBV infection is increased by 200 times.
2. Consumption of Food Contaminated with Aspergillus flavus and its Mycotoxins: Research has shown that over 10 types of mycotoxins can induce tumors in different organs of animals. Aspergillus flavus is one of the toxic molds, and its toxin B1 (aflatoxin B1, AFB1) is highly toxic to the liver. Numerous studies have demonstrated that the distribution of Aspergillus flavus contamination overlaps significantly with high-risk areas for liver cancer, directly indicating that aflatoxin is a crucial factor in the formation of liver cancer, accounting for approximately 80% of cases.
