Why Does My Urine Have a Sour Odor?
A sour smell in urine may be caused by internal heat or inflammation, such as a urinary system infection. If there are no other accompanying symptoms, anti-inflammatory drugs can be taken under the guidance of a doctor. While taking medication, it is important to observe changes in condition and prevent chronic inflammation in a timely manner.
1. Dark yellow urine may be a sign of dehydration. It should be noted that even short-term dehydration can lead to more serious bladder problems. When the body is dehydrated, it tries to conserve fluids, making the urine more concentrated. Chemicals in the urine can contact the lining of the bladder, causing irritation and leading to incontinence or infection. Ideally, urine should always be clear or light yellow. Drinking more water when dark urine is noticed can help repair dehydration.
2. Red urine indicates the presence of blood in the urine, which may be a sign of hematuria. If this is observed, it is recommended to consult a doctor immediately as it is not a normal phenomenon. Causes of hematuria include trauma, kidney disease or cancer, kidney inflammation or infection, etc.
3. If urine has a strong odor, first check what food or drinks have been consumed recently. Asparagus is a food that is known to cause a strong odor in urine. Some people have an enzyme that breaks down asparagus into strongly smelling compounds. Additionally, coffee can also increase the odor of urine, especially when dehydrated. These situations are normal and do not require concern. However, bacterial urinary tract infections can also cause urine odor. If symptoms such as burning sensation during urination, fever, or cloudy urine are also observed, it is recommended to consult a doctor immediately as antibiotics may be needed to treat the infection.
