What Causes Primary Scars?
There are two main causes of primary keloid, which lead to the abnormal proliferation of connective tissue. These causes are generally classified as internal and external factors.
Internal causes are mainly influenced by the individual's predisposition to scarring and the level of estrogen in the body. This predisposition is often inherited genetically, mostly in a crossed pattern, but it is not contagious.
External causes primarily involve various forms of skin injury, such as vaccinations, insect bites, eyebrow tattooing, ear piercing, scratching, needle injuries, acne, and so on. Trauma, skin infections, burns, or scalds can also lead to the formation of keloids. Hypertrophic scars are excessive growths that occur after surgery or trauma.
There is a type of skin that is prone to scarring, which is medically referred to as a scarring constitution. The proportion of people with this constitution in the general population is extremely small. In people with a scarring constitution, when the skin tissue is exposed to various external injuries, there will be a large amount of proliferative fibrous connective tissue at the wound healing site, forming hard and irregularly shaped masses. This is often accompanied by clinical symptoms such as itching and pain.
The treatment of primary scars should be targeted based on the actual condition of the patient. Currently, there are many treatment methods available, including laser therapy, cryotherapy, and physical therapy. Laser therapy has certain advantages. Firstly, it does not damage other skin tissues. Secondly, the treatment effect is relatively obvious. However, laser therapy cannot prevent recurrence. Therefore, individuals with a scarring constitution should be particularly cautious and take preventive measures after treatment, such as avoiding skin injuries in daily life.
