What are the Uses and Benefits of Abrus Precatorius?
1. What is Abrus mollis? It is a plant belonging to the Abrus genus of Fabaceae. The whole plant has yellow long soft hair. There are about 10 to 16 pairs of small leaflets, which are oblong in shape, about 1-2.5 cm long and 0.5-1 cm wide. There are sparse soft hairs on the upper surface and dense white soft hairs on the lower surface.
2. Pharmacological effects: Water extract can reduce the content of total cholesterol, triglyceride in serum and liver of hyperlipidemia rats, as well as whole blood viscosity, whole blood reduction viscosity, Casson viscosity, erythrocyte aggregation index, erythrocyte rigidity index, erythrocyte electrophoresis time, hematocrit, and increase serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol content; indicating that it has the effect of promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, improving circulation, and preventing and treating hyperlipidemia and fatty liver. The ethanol extract of Abrus mollis was found to inhibit both HBsAg and HBeAg in serum, showing a significant dose-effect and time-effect relationship.
3. Chemical composition: The main components are fatty acids, triterpenoid saponins, steroids, and isoflavonoids.
