What Causes Drooling?
1. Many people think that only children drool, but adults can also do so. Normally, one does not drool while asleep. If this happens frequently, it indicates a deficiency of kidney qi and yang qi in the body, specifically leaning towards yang deficiency. "Yang" refers to the body's functional state. People with yang deficiency have insufficient muscle elasticity and tend to be flabby, leading to an open mouth and drooling while asleep. Of course, if one has a cold or nasal congestion and needs to breathe through the mouth, that is a different matter.
2. If drooling occurs frequently during sleep, it is best to pay more attention to one's health and adjust diet accordingly. Taking health supplements and traditional Chinese medicine that strengthens the spleen and kidneys, such as lotus seeds, can be beneficial. If there is no dryness or bitterness in the mouth, one can also add codonopsis. Drooling during sleep can be caused by minor issues and should be paid attention to.
3. It may also be due to improper sleeping posture, such as sleeping on a desk or on one's side, which can easily cause drooling. Additionally, inflammation in the mouth can stimulate saliva production. For example, if the mouth is infected with bacteria and pain is evident, drooling may occur more easily. Local medication is needed to promote ulcer healing, and the drooling will disappear automatically.
4. Furthermore, malformations of the teeth can also cause drooling. It is important to maintain personal oral hygiene on a daily basis.
