How is Danggui Shaoyao San Used in Clinical Practice?
Danggui Shaoyao San possesses the functions of strengthening the spleen, removing dampness, nourishing blood, and promoting water metabolism. Currently, it is used to treat symptoms such as abdominal pain during menstruation or pregnancy in women. This formula is a relatively effective blood-regulating medication with mild effects. However, it is essential that patients obtain a doctor's prescription before using it, as improper use may lead to other issues.
Danggui Shaoyao San originates from Zhang Zhongjing's "Jin Kui Yao Lue" and is primarily used to nourish the blood, regulate the liver, strengthen the spleen, and remove dampness. It is mainly used to treat women's health issues, such as persistent abdominal pain, dizziness, palpitations, lower extremity edema, urinary difficulties, pale tongue with a white and greasy coating, whether they occur during pregnancy or menstruation.
Shaoyao nourishes the blood and softens the liver, Danggui promotes blood circulation and nourishes the blood, while Fu Ling and Bai Zhu strengthen the spleen. Together with Ze Xie, they remove dampness and strengthen the spleen.
When using this formula to treat pregnancy-related conditions, it is important to use a small dosage of Chuanxiong, as it is a medicinal herb that acts on the blood and has a pungent and dispersing nature.
