How to Determine the Health of Sperm?
To determine whether a man's sperm is healthy, it is necessary to examine its color, liquefaction time, viscosity, semen volume, survival rate, and pH level. If the male's sperm color is grayish white or slightly yellowish, turns into liquid within 15-30 minutes after ejaculation, and when stirred with a glass rod, can form semen filaments not exceeding 2cm, and the semen pH value is between 7.2-7.8, it is considered healthy.
1. Color: Under normal conditions, a man's sperm color is grayish white or slightly yellowish, which is a healthy color for semen. If any other abnormal color is observed, it is necessary to promptly visit a hospital for examination.
2. Liquefaction Time: Normally, after a man ejaculates semen, it will turn into liquid within 15 to 30 minutes. However, if it remains unliquefied after 60 minutes, it is considered an abnormal liquefaction.
3. Viscosity Test: To test viscosity, a glass rod can be used. The glass rod is gently inserted into the already liquefied semen and lifted, forming semen filaments. Under normal conditions, the length of the filaments is less than two centimeters.
4. Semen Volume: Normally, a man's semen volume must be more than or equal to 1.5 milliliters. If it exceeds seven milliliters, it is considered excessive, and if it is less than two milliliters, it is considered insufficient.
5. Survival Rate: Checked within one hour after male ejaculation, if the living sperm cells are greater than or equal to 50%, it is a normal sperm survival rate. A too low survival rate is considered abnormal.
6. pH Level: Under normal conditions, a man's semen pH level ranges from 7.2 to 7.8. A pH level less than 7.2 is commonly seen in ejaculatory duct obstruction or urine contamination, while a pH level greater than 7.8 is often associated with seminal vesicle inflammation or outdated specimens. Both lower and higher pH levels are unhealthy.
