Can the breasts still grow larger after 22 years old?
The issue of breast size actually has a significant correlation with personal development. Some women have larger breasts, while others have flatter ones. The breasts of a 22-year-old girl may continue to grow, but they may also remain unchanged. Therefore, to alter breast size, one can consider breast augmentation surgery using implants or autologous fat transfer.
At 22 years old, the breasts may still grow. Breast size is primarily determined by two components: fat and glandular tissue. An increase in either of these two components after adulthood will lead to changes in breast volume. First, the fat content increases, and then the glandular component. This typically occurs during pregnancy and lactation, when hormonal changes in the body prompt the breasts to develop and grow to facilitate breastfeeding. However, after lactation, the glandular tissue will regress and shrink back to its previous size.
To increase breast size, one can opt for breast augmentation surgery using implants. The essence of this procedure is to provide adequate tissue coverage for the implants. When implants are placed in the retromammary space, they have minimal tissue coverage but are positioned in a more physiologically natural state, providing the strongest protrusion of the breasts. On the other hand, when implants are placed in the subpectoral space behind the pectoral muscles, they have thicker tissue coverage but their protrusion effect on the breasts is limited due to muscle compression.
Autologous fat transfer, also known as fat grafting, can also be used to increase breast size. However, it is inevitable that hardened nodules and calcifications will form after fat transplantation. The international medical community still holds a cautious view on the use of large-volume fat grafting, advocating for small-volume fat injections to correct local deformities.
