Why Does My Scalp Itch?
Head itching may be caused by not washing your hair for a long time. Of course, it may also be related to hair dyeing, skin irritation, and skin lesions on the scalp. When itching occurs on the scalp, you need to first observe the scalp area for any bumps, redness, or swelling, and then use medications such as cetirizine tablets and metronidazole gel based on the symptoms.
What Causes Itchy Scalp
1. Not washing your hair for a long time can lead to excessive oil and dandruff, which can cause bacterial growth and itchy scalp. It is recommended to wash your hair regularly.
2. Hair dyeing or perming can damage the hair quality. The chemicals in them can harm the scalp, clog pores, and prevent impurities from being removed, leading to itchy scalp.
3. Excessive stimulation of the scalp skin, in addition to hair dyeing and perming, can also be caused by excessive consumption of stimulating substances such as alcohol, tobacco, and coffee.
How to Treat Itchy Scalp
1. If there are no apparent changes in appearance and the itching is the primary symptom, it may be a skin itching disorder of the head. You can choose to use oral cetirizine tablets combined with external compound chlorhexidine acetate spray for itching relief.
2. If there are obvious red bumps with white pustules on the itchy area, it may be a case of folliculitis on the scalp. You can use external metronidazole gel.
3. If there are thick scales visible on the itchy areas of the scalp, it may be psoriasis of the scalp. It is recommended to use external calcipotriol ointment for treatment.
Insect bites, fungal infections leading to scalp ringworm, and eczematous dermatitis of the scalp can all cause itchy scalp.
