Testicular Itching
Testicular itching, also known as scrotal itching, typically refers to varying degrees of itching in the scrotal area, which may extend to the penis, perineum, and anus. The causes of scrotal itching can be diverse, including infectious diseases, non-infectious conditions, nutritional or metabolic factors, as well as moisture and poor ventilation.
Infectious Diseases
Infectious diseases that can cause scrotal itching include herpes zoster, candidiasis, condyloma acuminata, tinea cruris, erythema, pediculosis pubis, genital herpes, syphilis, and scabies.
Non-infectious Conditions
Non-infectious conditions that can lead to scrotal itching include contact dermatitis, chronic simple lichen planus, eczema, steroid-dependent dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, neurodermatitis, and allergic dermatitis.
Nutritional and Metabolic Factors
Nutritional and metabolic factors that can contribute to scrotal itching include senile vulvar pruritus, scrotal pruritus, and riboflavin (Vitamin B2) deficiency.
Other Factors
Other factors that can cause scrotal itching are commonly seen in manual workers, especially during summer when the temperature is high, sweat is abundant, and the environment is damp and poorly ventilated. The skin of the scrotum can be affected by sweat, friction from underwear, and other factors, leading to itching. Wearing excessively tight jeans or non-absorbent and non-breathable nylon underwear can also cause itching. Individuals with allergic tendencies, long-term mental stress, and significant mood fluctuations are prone to developing this condition. People with chronic digestive system diseases, gastrointestinal dysfunction, endocrine disorders, and metabolic impairments are also susceptible to external genital itching under the influence of external factors.
Common Diseases
Common diseases that manifest as scrotal itching include balanitis, neurodermatitis of the scrotum, allergic dermatitis of the scrotum, scrotal scabies, scrotal eczema, localized neurodermatitis, and fungal infections of the scrotum.
What is Scrotal Itching?
Scrotal itching refers specifically to varying degrees of itching or severe itching confined to the scrotal area, which may extend to the penis, perineum, and anus. Scrotal itching is primarily based on the patient's subjective complaints and does not include a description of skin manifestations. However, the characteristics of the rash and the patient's history are crucial for diagnosis.
